
My dad read detective stories to me before I knew how to read. Over the years, a character started to come to life, and I decided to try to write my own story. It took several decades for Spencer Manning to see other than the sheaf of papers in my drawer. But eight books later I still look forward to visiting with my characters.
Rick also works as an editor for his publisher, Calumet Editions.

Rick spent fifteen years working with the Coast Guard out of Station Wilmette on Lake Michigan as a coxswain and a radio watchstander. Numerous search and rescue missions resulted in saved lives.
Rick now spends time playing jazz trumpet, guitar and piano and as a docent at the Grosse Point Lighthouse. As much spare time as possible is spent reading.
Rick has worked at Fermilab, the nation's most energetic particle accelerator laboratory and volunteers at Microtrace, one of the world's foremost forensic chemistry labs.
